vidrala has announced the winners of its master glass awards, which celebrate its seventh edition and whose objective is to search for new ideas among students of industrial or graphic design, engineering or graphic arts, from Spain and Portugal. The winner has been the IZZI project, which has won a trip to the Milan Furniture Fair in 2023, and there have been two second prizes for the projects COSMO by Beatriz Tejo and TERRE by Pedro Gomes.
The awards are organized in collaboration with the University of Deusto and the Basque Design Association OATHS.
The 10 finalist authors have defended their online proposals before the jury, which has assessed the innovation, originality, functionality, viability and sustainability of the projects presented. The Jury for this edition was made up of: Dani Nebot, graphic designer and national design award winner in 1995, Juan Mellen, Public Relations and President of the Design Institute of Spain, Olaia Irulegi, Industrial Designer and President of EIDE, Marcelo Leslabay, Industrial Designer and Professor at the University of Deusto, and Asier Extebarria, Technical Industrial Engineer and Director of Design at Vidrala.
First Prize: IZZI
The jury has selected this project highlighting the brand communication and generation of perception of value of the container, which is inspired by the trends of premium beverages in markets such as Asia. Its own naming is also reminiscent of its shapes and vertices. From a technical point of view, it is highlighted that it has the potential to be industrialized and in reference to sustainability, the container is committed to the use of a dark color in order to contain more recycled glass material, in addition, the possible reuse of its stopper as glass reinforces this aspect. The project has been developed by Catarina Santos from the Higher School of Education of Coimbra.
Runner-up: COSMO
The container has a clean line and well-crafted graphics. Reminiscent of the iconic tube glass, its ergonomics is complemented by the handle it implements. It is also committed to reuse, when it comes to being able to give it later uses as a bottle. The author of the project is Beatriz Tejo, from the Higher School of Education of Coimbra.
Honorable mention: TERRE
The jury highlighted the organic shapes of the bottle, its textures and engravings, as well as the consistency of the proposal with the content, in this case olive oil. The author of the project is Pedro Gomes, from the University of Aveiro.
