A jury, composed of external and internal experts in the sector, selected the winners of the Gmund Award 2024 in eight categories out of a total of 289 entries, of which around 200 were nominated. Florian Kohler announced one winner per category:
- Winner of the Private category: Orikasa Mai for the wedding stationery “The Round Window Marriage Certificate”, a wedding stationery product. Japanese artist Orikasa Mai impressed the jury with her creative and exceptional use of paper. The greeting cards, made using the Gmund Colors Matt collection, create a variety of shapes and colours when placed in a wooden frame.
- Winner in the Book category: the Diocesan Museum of Freising for the book project “Saint Francis. The Saint of Assisi”.
The jury praised the book for its creative concept, its consistent matt gold hot stamping on the Gmund Colors collection and the special processing of the Gmund hemp paper. - Winner in the business category: Wiesendanger medien GmbH for the printing project “Starkmacher VDMB Annual Magazine 2023”.
For the VDMB Association, the printing house produced an annual magazine entitled “Starkmacher”. Various Gmund papers were used: Gmund Cotton, Gmund Bauhaus Dessau and Gmund Lakepaper Extra. The jury was impressed by the complexity of the different embossing, material processing and printing techniques. - Winner in the Mailing category: Made sas for the printed mailing “Invitation Les Places d'Or”.
Folded mailing creates action, movement and surprise for the viewer. The use of the Gmund Colors Matt and Gmund Action collections, combined with different hot stampings, impressed the jury members. - Winner in the Art category: Matthias Erhardt for the art project “Quallen/Jellyfish”.
The format and unusual printing technique fascinated the jury members. Unique, colourful pieces are created on large sheets of Gmund paper using hand-cut disposable linoleum plates. - Winner in the Packaging category: Leica Camera AG for “The new packaging for Leica cameras”.
For its new “Home of Leica Cameras” packaging, the brand uses Gmund Bauhaus Dessau paper, which features a fine-dot embossing structure and a natural protective coating. The packaging web also uses Gmund Bauhaus Dessau paper, which has a fine-dot embossing structure and a natural protective coating. It also uses the Gmund Used collection with a natural matte finish. The packaging captivates with its tactile experience and its elaborate folding box. With its complex design, the box serves as a new home for all kinds of cameras. - Winner in the additional category Green Innovation: Paper & Tea GmbH for “Tea for Tomorrow – Advent Calendar”.
The award went to Paper & Tea GmbH from Germany for its pioneering project in collaboration with Gmund: the development of a tea paper for packaging and corporate communication. In this case, wood pulp is replaced by tea waste from Paper & Tea's own production. The product made from tea paper impressed the jury with its practicality and sustainable use. The completely neutral box for the Advent calendar, made from tea paper, can be reused by customers. - Winner in the additional category Gmund Color of the Year 2024: Lotte Department Store for “AVENUEL membership card & envelope”.
Every year, Gmund Papier creates individual colours on natural fibres at the request of our customers. If customers cannot find the right option from the 50 colours of the Gmund Creative System, they produce a customised colour from orders of 3000 kg. The colour of the LOTTE department store in Korea particularly captivated the jury. The envelope and cards for the “AVENUEL membership card and envelope” are in a deep, modern, intense violet. The details and creativity of the printing project, combined with a tone-on-tone hot stamping technique, convinced the jury to award the additional Gmund Color of the Year 2024 award.
