«Metal packaging is safe, attractive, multipurpose and with an infinite cycle of recyclability»

At Eurobox they are specialists in metal containers manufactured in Spain, sustainable and recyclable, mainly for perfumery and food.

Eurobox celebrates this year its 25th anniversary. What balance do you make of these 25 years?
Our work philosophy together with our passion for a job well done is what has led us to be one of the main metal packaging companies in Europe, and our products can be found anywhere in the world.
The identification of a market niche with unmet needs pushed the first generation of the business to invest in the manufacture of special metal containers.

How have new technologies influenced the evolution of the sector?
In our case, we have made a firm commitment to the automation of processes and the integration of robotics at the end of the line, in such a way that the professional profile that manages production has gone from an operator focused on manual work, to another who supervises feeding of the production line and the quality of the product.
They are specialized in metallic containers,

What advantages does metal have as a material for packaging?
In this case we have to thank the European consumer for the great awareness regarding recycling. All metal that we deposit in the yellow container is used for later uses. In the case of tinplate, its cycle of use is infinite, which is why steel mills, such as Arcelor Mittal, end up recovering this metal and using it again in the production process. In addition, the containers we manufacture have a collection component, so they are containers that the end customer reuses and stays in their home for a long time for a second use.

Have you been affected by the scarcity of raw materials and the energy crisis?
Our raw material purchase forecasts are made more than 8 months in advance, which allows us to generate and guarantee a safety stock to be able to face the campaigns. The key in these situations is a mixture of foresight and risk taking.
In relation to the energy crisis, it is our suppliers who have borne the brunt of the increase in costs which, logically, have been transferred to the rest of the production chain.

Do you work exclusively for perfumery, food and beverages?
Basically 90% of production caters to these sectors, with special mention to perfumery and food, since since the pandemic our clients have carried out a great exercise in adapting to new forms of consumption, conditioned in the case of perfumery and cosmetics due to online shopping and, in the case of food, to new consumption habits at home. All this conditioned by the supply chain that demands products manufactured in Europe with fast delivery.

What measures are you implementing in favor of a more sustainable production?
At Eurobox we have always defended the infinite cycle recyclability of metal, as well as the dual use that consumers give our packaging once it fulfills its main function. Looking to the future, the focus is on the manufacture of the raw material. A project is already underway in the sector in which the manufacture of tinplate is expected to be carbon neutral in the coming years.

How important is R&D?
We have a team of engineers who work day by day designing our own technology and machinery to adapt all the production lines and all the details related to the manufacture of the container and thus apply the know-how acquired over the years to them. We have a great team that is committed to the research and development of new products in order to always be at the forefront of the latest market trends to always offer the best options to our customers and apply the latest technological advances available in the industry.

Do you plan to offer any new service to your customers?
Since the irruption of teleworking, we observe that the way in which teams interact in the process of developing new projects has changed. That is why we are reinforcing the area of graphic and industrial design, relying on virtual reality with the aim of helping clients to shorten the decision-making process, saving stages in the process.

What are your medium and long-term goals?
We are detecting possible opportunities in the market due to changes in legislation in the single-use packaging market, so we hope to continue offering alternatives and innovations that can continue to promote metal as a safe, attractive, multi-use and recyclable container. infinite loop.
