The MediaMarkt logistics center in Pinto (Madrid) has launched an innovative initiative to promote sustainability and efficiency in its logistics processes, through the reuse of the company's Capsa6in2® cardboard box at least 1 times Capsa Packaging.

Sustainability is part of MediaMarkt's DNA. your initiative "Better way" promotes the sustainable consumption of products and services such as reducing the use of consumables, encouraging the reuse of packaging, promoting repairs and extending the useful life of products.

The logistics and service center of Pinto (Madrid) makes a special effort to avoid the use of single-use cardboard boxes due to their impact in both energy and economic terms.

One of the notable initiatives in this center has been the reuse of cardboard boxes from the company Capsa Packaging. Thanks to the patented design of Capsa 2in1® boxes, it is possible to reuse them at least 6 times, which speeds up and simplifies internal logistics processes.

Advantages of Capsa 2in1® boxes

The life cycle of a Capsa 2in1® carton begins with order picking, transportation, receiving and reverse logistics. Once complete, the box is reintegrated into the cycle again, with a minimum of 6 uses. With a single cardboard box, the entire cycle can be carried out, from the logistics center to the stores and back to the center, which implies a reduction of the carbon footprint, optimization of processes and effective reuse. This circuit not only benefits the logistics center, but also allows stores to improve their performance. When store staff easily and quickly reuse Capsa 2in1® boxes, they save time that they can devote to better customer service.

A great advantage of the patented Capsa 2in1® multi-function closure system is that these boxes can be used interchangeably as storage or transport boxes, simply by alternating their two flap options. When used for storage, the criss-cross flaps allow boxes to be opened and closed easily, without the need for tape. When the box needs to be shipped, it is closed with the other pair of flaps and it will be ready in no time. This functionality streamlines both order preparation and storage processes.

In terms of costs and processes, the use of these boxes represents a big savings, since 6 times less conventional cardboard boxes are needed. Although all cardboard boxes are recyclable due to the nature of their material, post-use management such as folding, storing and transporting them, as well as the energy consumption required to recycle them, has associated costs. Ultimately, reuse itself leads to cost savings and reduced carbon footprint.

Addition benefits in terms of functionality and sustainability, it has been possible to reduce incidents due to content breakage by 43%, thanks to its exclusive design that reinforces the structure of the boxes. Given that fragile and high-value technological materials are handled in the Pinto logistics center, increase security and protection in shipments it is enormously beneficial.

Capsa 2in1® boxes also provide a great advantage for staff, as they can be assembled in less than 1 second and its handling is much easier and more comfortable, which speeds up the preparation of orders.

Today, MediaMarkt It has a total of 110 physical stores in Spain, in addition to its online store, and employs a human team of 7.000 people. Its turnover is around 2.300 million euros.

One of MediaMarkt's challenges is to increase the speed of deliveries and ensure that they are 100% sustainable. In 2022, 26% of online deliveries were already 100% sustainable, and it is expected to reach 50% this year.
