Coaali, the coalition for the recycling of aluminum and light steel, is born

July 20, 2020

Coali is the coalition born to promote the recycling cash from products light steel and aluminum, materials with infinite recyclability. It is a project of progress towards an increasingly circular and sustainable economy, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The three main lines of work will be the search for alliances with public institutions, companies, NGOs, environmental entities, etc .; promote effective recycling and promote public awareness of responsible waste management.

This initiative is promoted by Nespresso, as a founding company, in line with its commitment to sustainability for almost 20 years. For the moment, companies have joined the coalition Cofresco (Alabl), JDE (L'Or, Marcilla, Saimaza), Codorníu and Hydro Extrusion, which also value the sustainability potential of aluminum and light steel in their business models. Coaali opens the door to all those organizations determined to promote sustainability and the circular economy within the framework of the 2030 Agenda.

Currently, the lack of adequate technology in packaging selection plants prevents aluminum and light steel products from being recycled and, consequently, they are being wasted in landfills. Coaali was born with the vocation of expanding the capacity for the separation, collection and recycling of these products in pioneering cities in Spain. To this end, the coalition will promote the implementation of innovative technological solutions in these cities to solve these separation difficulties due to the small size of said waste. In addition, Coaali will work to make recycling as easy and convenient as possible for the citizen, exposing to the different local and regional administrations the possibility that these products can be deposited in the yellow container.
