First Spanish packaging with the Nutri-score labeling

April 16th 2019

Since January Eroski stores have been offering three products of their own brand with the Nutri-score labeling, which classifies them according to nutritional quality. The products are a canned tomato sauce, a pack of potatoes to be cooked in the microwave, both Eroski brand, and a canned dried tomato in Eroski Seleqtia oil. On the other hand, Cafeto is the first and only Spanish vending company that offers all its products with this label.

The Nutri-score code consists of a gradual graph from green to red in five levels. Each product will highlight the color that corresponds to it based on its content in sugars, saturated fat, salt, calories, fiber and protein. The green colors will identify the healthiest foods and the red ones those with the lowest nutritional quality.

The model is validated by the European Union and Approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), it has already been applied in France since 2018 and its widespread implementation in Spain is expected in 2019.
