June 29th, 2020

Smileat, the Spanish start-up of 100% organic baby food, throw a sustainable packaging for snacks.

This container of polyethylene of plant origin It is made with ethanol from the fermentation of sugar cane. This material is chemically and physically the same as polyethylene derived from hydrocarbons, the only difference is that the raw material used is from renewable sources. It is a bioplastic that offers the same quality standards and the same mechanical properties and processability as a conventional one; for this reason, it keeps all the characteristics of organic fruit puree intact throughout its life cycle.

Smileat launches this new packaging of plant origin with the aim of contributing to: limiting the use of plastic from hydrocarbons, promoting the use of renewable sources in food, lowering carbon emissions and reducing the ecological footprint.

In addition, these three new self-drinking sachets contain 100% organic ingredients, such as: cherry, açai and amaranth, Greek yogurt and oatmeal, and yogurt and raspberry. They have a high content of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in order to help maintain high defenses and meet all the nutritional needs of children.

According to Alberto Jiménez, co-founder and co-CEO of Smileat: “Selling organic, fighting for healthy food, is useless, if we do not build a sustainable future for our children with new packaging alternatives. … /… Our goal for 2020 is to have all our packaging made with recyclable, plant-based or compostable materials. "

Smileat, which was born 5 years ago, has been a pioneer in respect for the environment. Thanks to the 1.000 tons of organic raw material purchased by Smileat in recent years, they have saved 408.000 liters of fertilizers. It proposes sustainable alternatives that avoid the use of plastics in more than 20 organic baby food products including all its baby food, cookies, infusions and now its pouches or self-drinking fruit bags.

All the company's products are manufactured in Navarra with a raw material from Spanish organic farming and livestock, without the use of thickeners, dyes, sugar or added salt.
