pentawards, the world-renowned awards for the packaging design industry, reveals the list of packaging shortlisted for its contest.

Founded in 2007, pentawards is committed to recognizing excellence in design, providing a source of inspiration and connecting the global packaging community through its contest and events.

Now in its fourteenth year, the 2020 edition received more than 2.000 entries from 60 countries on 5 continents, including Russia, Spain, China, and the United States. More than 400 entries have been shortlisted in the six main categories of the contest, which have a total of 59 subcategories.

One category in particular to which the most entries have been submitted was Student, with a 77% increase in submissions from universities. With a push to showcase and support future talent within the industry, Pentawards recently compiled a Student League Table which highlights where the most important global talent in packaging design from around the world comes from. This follows from the annual chart of Top 20 professional winners of all time, Top 20 All-Time Winners Table, which has design agencies, brands, freelancers, universities, suppliers and manufacturers of packaging.

On this year's shortlist, Backbone Branding, which won the 2019 Design Agency of the Year award, is holding strong with 5 shortlisted entries alongside Xiaomi, NX Creative, Design Bridge and Depot Branding. Out of nine companies with 4 shortlisted entries, Caparo Design Crew has four projects for the first time, all of which have been shortlisted.

The British Higher School of Art & Design, the first of the Student League Table, has 10 shortlisted entries in this year's competition, followed by the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, which has 7, the Art Center College of Art & Design with 5 and The Fundacio Privada Elisava Escola Universitaria with 4 pre-selected entries.

In the short list ad, Adam ryanHead of Pentawards said: “In the current climate, we wanted to share some good news and show excellence within the industry. Every year, the quality of the tickets gets stronger and stronger, so being shortlisted is a great achievement and something we wanted to celebrate. We can see that certain agencies and universities are consistently strong competitors, but also some newcomers. We wish everyone good luck and look forward to announcing the winners! ”

This year's competition featured an international jury, made up of 30 experts from 18 countries, made up of experts from brands and design agencies, such as Diageo, Mars Wrigley, Bulletproof or Pearlfisher.
