The Alliance for Industry calls for a program of measures to recover economic activity

April 15th 2020

The situation created by the serious pandemic of coronavirus It has motivated the adoption of extraordinary measures to fight the disease, initially through the declaration of the state of alarm and, later, with the approval of Royal Decree Law 10/2020.

La Spanish productive industry Today it generates 13% of GDP and 12% of employment directly, although its indirect and induced effects reach, respectively, 43% of wealth and 30% of employment. Industry is also responsible for 92% of merchandise exports and for more than 50% of private investment in research, innovation and technological development.

The Alliance for the Competitiveness of the Spanish Industry -constituted by ANFAC (automotive), AOP (refining), ASPAPEL (paper), FEIQUE (chemistry and pharmacy), FIAB (food and beverages), OFICEMEN (cement) and UNESID (steel industry)- They consider that it is necessary to progressively promote the rest of industrial activities and the construction sector, so that they exercise their fundamental driving role of the economy, adopting urgent measures that simultaneously stimulate demand and the competitiveness of companies.

In this sense, they consider that it is non-extendable for the Economic Vice-presidency of the Government and the Ministry of Industry to activate and lead a program of measures for rapid implementation, supported by five axes:

• Promote public investment in infrastructure, public housing and rehabilitation;
• Effectively stimulate demand for cars;
• Temporarily reduce the tax burdens of sectors subject to international jurisdiction;
• Adopt measures that affect the reduction of costs related to energy, such as the suspension of the generation tax 15/2012, or the guarantee of compensation of indirect CO2 costs;
• Promote measures that favor access to international markets and enhance export activity.

 The Alliance considers it essential to establish a specific program of measures capable of increasing demand at the national level and improving the competitiveness of our companies in the international market.
