Since its launch in 2017, the companies that are part of Lean & Green have achieved a relative average saving of 30% in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions derived from its logistics activity. This is confirmed by the audit of the results of the project led in Spain by AECOC, carried out by the environmental certification entity EQA.
The reduction of the environmental impact achieved by the Lean & Green companies audited has been produced taking into account that the logistics activity of the Lean & Green companies has grown by 20%. Thus, the companies meet one of the objectives of the project, which is to decouple growth from environmental impact.
"The companies involved in the transport of goods have a responsibility to reduce emissions, and the companies that are part of Lean & Green are showing that through efficiency they can greatly minimize their environmental footprint, at a time of great uncertainty about the new technologies for transport", remarks the director of Logistics and Transport of AECOC, Maria Tena.
Efficient actions to reduce emissions
The Lean & Green project audit also shows which are the most effective initiatives for the goal of reducing the environmental footprint in logistics activities. Thus, the project companies that have activated strategies for route optimization have achieved an average emission reduction of 21%.
The second most efficient action is the hiring of renewable energy, with which companies have managed to reduce their logistics emissions by 15%, while strategies for optimizing vehicle loading, such as the use of Duo Trailers or Megatrucks and the use of ultralight platforms, have resulted in average savings of 8 %.
The study shows that, on the part of the distributors, the most effective actions are the reorganization of the distribution platforms and the contracting of renewable energy. In the case of manufacturers, the use of load forecasting programs, the redesign of the composition of the pallets and the optimization of routes stand out, with collaborative projects with clients to carry out various deliveries in the same displacement.
In 2022, Lean & Green achieved the greatest growth of its history thanks to the incorporation of 26 new companies, to reach those that are currently part of the project. In addition, in the last year Lean & Green have managed to expand their radius of action and have incorporated companies linked to key sectors, such as e-commerce, pharmaceutical distribution or agri-food.
