July 20, 2020

Diageo

Diageo, maker of Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff and Guinness, has created the first liquor bottle based on 100% plastic-free paper, made entirely of sustainably sourced wood. The bottle will debut with Scotch whiskey Johnnie Walker, in early 2021.

Diageo announced a new partnership with Pilot Lite, a risk management company, to launch Pulpex Limited, a new technology company from sustainable packaging leader in the world. Pulpex Limited has established a consortium of partners from world leading consumer goods companies in non-competing categories, including Unilever and PepsiCo, with more partners expected to be announced by the end of the year. The consortium members hope to launch their own branded paper bottles, based on the design and technology of Pulpex Limited, in 2021.

Pulpex Limited has developed a pioneering scalable paper bottle, designed and developed to be 100% plastic free and completely recyclable. The bottle is made from sustainably sourced pulp to meet food safety standards and will be fully recyclable in standard waste systems.
