April 11th 2016

Interpack (4-10 May 2017, Düsseldorf, Germany) cooperates with the World Packaging Organization (WPO). Within the framework of this cooperation, the WPO has expanded its prestigious WorldStar Award with the category “SAVE FOOD Packaging Awards”.
The concept of WorldStar Awards awards the best practices that have proven their effectiveness at the national level and presents them in the framework of an awards ceremony at interpack 2017.

“We are delighted to be able to support the SAVE FOOD idea with an award. Good packaging can make a critical contribution to reducing food loss or waste, ”says Dr. Johannes Bergmair, Vice President of Sustainability & Food Safety at the WPO.

SAVE FOOD Packaging Awards
The SAVE FOOD Packaging Awards honor packaging solutions that distinguish themselves by reducing food loss and waste, extending the "shelf life" of the packaged product, or smart portioning packaging concepts or protecting scraps when food packaging breaks. . When evaluating the candidatures, it is also taken into account that the packaging is produced saving resources and the amount of essential material is used.

In total, associations from more than 15 countries, including Africa and the Middle East, participate in organizing the awards. They choose before interpack 2017 the national winners of different categories. Among others, retail and transport packaging are awarded.

The national winners will then be presented at Interpack 2017 to compete for the WorldStar Award in the SAVE FOOD category and will be seen in the framework of the special exhibition “innovationparc” that after 2014 will once again deal with all the SAVE FOOD themes.
