From June 8 to 14, the Barcelona Design Week, organized by BCD Barcelona Design Center, brought together more than 9.000 professionals, companies, entities and the general public, who have been able to attend a multidisciplinary program with a total of more than 70 activities.
Under the slogan 'Design is here!, The 10th edition of the BDW has delved into the relationship between design, technology and innovation; It has promoted the exchange of knowledge and business opportunities between companies and professionals, and has served to bring design closer to the general public, projecting the Barcelona brand to the world linked to concepts such as creativity, design, innovation and entrepreneurship.
BDW has offered a multidisciplinary program made up of more than 70 activities, including the inaugural 'Design in Tech' conference given by Jackie Xu and John Maeda; the Ecodesign Day; the Food Design Event; the International Design Weeks Talks session, with the Creative Directors of 9 international design weeks (Beijing, Budapest, Eindhoven, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York and Vienna); and the first edition of the 'Design is Future: innovation through design congresstival'. In addition, it is worth noting the itineraries of the Design CircuitPoblenou; 6 BDW Workshops, workshops organized by Barcelona design services companies, or the exhibition 'Timeless Massimo Vignelli', curated by the Husmee studio and which can be visited at the Disseny Hub Barcelona until August 31, 2015.
The program has been completed with the BDW Workshops, as well as the more than 50 activities that have made up the OFF BDW program.
Ecodesign Day: the fixer's movement
This year's Ecodesign Day consisted of a keynote address and a practical session on design and sustainability, in which the 'fixer' movement was discussed by Kyle Wiens, CEO of iFixit, a Californian company that has turned this new trend based on repair in a very profitable business.
The session was attended by Xavier Majoral, from the Stimulo Design studio, who accompanied Wiens during the disassembly of a coffee maker during the practical session of the event.
Barcelona Design Week 2015 opens the doors to the fifth edition of the Barcelona Design Festival, a great event organized by the BCD Barcelona Design Center and the FAD Fomento de las Artes y del Diseño, with the support of the Barcelona City Council, which from 8 June to July 5 promotes design in the citizen, professional and business spheres. The BDF relay will be taken by the FADfest from June 29 to July 5.
