The Liderpack 2023 Awards recognize 45 packaging and POS works

Photos: High barrier recyclable stick suitable for pharmaceutical products (Rotor Print). To this edition of the Líderpack Awards, convened by the Spanish Packaging Association of Graphispack Association and the living room hispack de Fira de Barcelona, 142 works from companies and schools from all over Spain have been presented, 16% more than last year. After evaluating each product, the jury has awarded 31 awards in the packaging specialty, eight in the POS section and six in “Young Design”.

The categories that have garnered the greatest number of awards have been food and logistics packaging, with seven trophies each, followed by beverages (4). The contest has also awarded packaging in the health (2), home (1), premium (3), Save foods –against food waste– (1), labeling (2), ecommerce (1), digital packaging (1), miscellaneous (1) and innovation in processes/machinery (1). Regarding the PLV specialty, three awards have been granted for work in the food sector, two for health and beauty, one for pharmacy and parapharmacy, one for household products and another for miscellaneous goods (other sectors).

Among the awarded companies there are some with more than one Liderpack such as Adaequo, which has been the great winner this year with five trophies, followed by Smurfit Kappa which has achieved four, Rotor Print, three, and International Paper, Coreti, DS Smith Tecnicarton and Hinojosa Packaging Group, two each. The rest of the award-winning companies are: Altavia Iberica, Alzamora Group, Climesa, Codintec, Copack, DeBonaTinta Estudi Gràfic, Estúdio Grafic 21, Flexomed, Garrofé, Gráficas Various, Grupo Fatecsa, L'Estudi Creatiu, Mr. Ripley, Ovelar, Sleever International, Studio One Eleven, Tot Display, Vegabaja Packaging and Wondu.

Access to the WorldStar for Packaging Awards

The Liderpack are the only Spanish awards that allow participation in the global packaging competition WorldStar for Packaging Awards organized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO). The award-winning companies at the Liderpack in the packaging specialty can submit individually to this contest, which includes works from more than 35 countries. The deadline to register ends on October 15.

For its part, in the category for students, called “Young Design”, which included 18 finalist projects for the XIII National Packaging Design and Sustainability Awards convened by the Valencia Packaging and Packaging Innovation Cluster, they were winners. the projects developed by students from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, the University of Zaragoza and Elisava. The six award-winning projects in the “Young Design” category automatically participate in the WorldStar Student Awards, the packaging competition for students from around the world.

The Liderpack 2023 Awards ceremony will take place next May at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via venue during the celebration of Hispack 2024.

List of awarded works in the Liderpack 2023 Awards

PACKAGING

  • Sleeve “And you will fly” ·(Ovelar) printed in flexography and screen printing to achieve different reliefs and textures to highlight the wine brand. Includes pre-cut line to facilitate the separation and recycling of the bottle film.
  • "Girl. Sublimation of the senses” (Codintec) case with premium ecological infusions of various flavors in which the labeling from sustainable, textured and recycled material that incorporates a braille system without the use of ink stands out.
  • Sleeve Leche Pascual (Sleever International). The traditional white milk bottle is replaced by another made with 100% recycled and recyclable plastic to which this sleeve is incorporated with, in turn, 30% recycled material, barrier properties and a paper-like appearance.
  • 100% recyclable Bag-in-Tube for liquids (Fatecsa Group) Cylindrical recyclable cardboard container to preserve and dispense liquids. Its assembly is simple, without the need for machines to permanently close the case. 
  • OliverOnda (Coreti), digitally printed velvety label with gold stamping and silk-screen varnishes that achieve a spectacular tactile and visual result so that this bottle of premium olive oil stands out on the shelves. 
  • IP Millenium Box (International Paper) – Food packaging with structural improvements for automatic boxing. Increases the rigidity and resistance of the box for correct strapping and optimal and functional group stacking.
  • Pack Honey (Graphic Study 21), premium cardboard case to contain single-dose containers of different varieties of honey.
  • Recyclable coffee container (Rotor Print), Recyclable single-material high barrier container for single-dose containers of coffee capsules. Allows the application of degassing and zip valves.
  • Panettone 118 (Mr. Ripley) Packaging to contain the best chocolate Panettone in Spain 2022 made by Eric Ortuño at L'Atelier Barcelona. The double-sided self-assembling square box allows you to transport the product comfortably and elegantly, serve it directly on the table and preserve what is left over. In addition, it is designed for display in stores. The design plays with the word Pantone/ Panettone.
  • Cardboard container for honey Granja San Francisco (L'Estudi Creatiu). 100% recyclable cardboard container for honey. The packaging materials are of plant origin. The inside of the container is covered with a sheet of sugar cane to protect the honey.
  • Halloween pumpkin for Fini sweets (Flexomed). Made industrially entirely in cardboard. It can be reused as a lantern if you add a light inside.
  • Lancôme Renergie HPN eco-luxury case (Adaequo). Design with high quality impact and presence. The recycled and recyclable glass container is refillable and weighs 30% less. The case is made up of a lid and base with a display of mirrors that contain product information.
  • High barrier recyclable stick suitable for pharmaceutical products (Rotor Print). It does not contain aluminum or polyester so it can be recycled. The use of raw materials is reduced by more than half. 
  • Sustainable packaging for single-dose detergents (Hinojosa Packaging Group). Cardboard dispenser container that can be applied to products with the same characteristics. The amount of plastic used is reduced. It has a moisture-proof internal face and includes a child-proof safety opening system.
  • AVOE Ella L'Ariadna (DeBonaTinta Estudi Gràfic). Packaging design for premium oil. The blue bottle is presented inside a wooden box to be reused as a nesting house for small birds. The label is an allegory to the family with the illustration of some chickadees flying among the olive trees.
  • Obsession (Studio One Eleven). Packaging and branding for Obsession gin inspired by the glass palaces of the late XNUMXth century. The botanical and exotic label recreates the Garden of Eden and the fable of Adam and the apple.
  • Welcome pack Kiss Perfume (Garrofé). Presentation pack for this line of perfumes made with green energy in natural textured material, from leather waste and recycled fibers. It has different levels: A rigid lid that unfolds and forms a display board. An interior with compartments to house brochures and a drawer with fragrance bottles.
  • Disber Christmas Basket (Hinojosa Packaging Group). Separator and cardboard case that solves the process of adding perishable products that make up the Christmas basket or business gifts at the last minute without depalletizing, removing straps or opening the box.  
  • Large packaging for vehicle chassis made of 100% cardboard (DS Smith Tecnicarton). A light solution that replaces metal packaging or EPS, EPP or wooden positioners. It is made of single-use cardboard and includes self-assembling cardboard positioners, allowing direct delivery on the same assembly line. 
  • Self-assembling corrugated cardboard box for electric car charger with installer template (DS Smith Tecnicarton). In addition to protecting the product, it allows the charger to be fixed to the wall and is easily dismantled.
  • Lid for transporting paella (Copack). Easy and quick to use, customizable cardboard lid that adjusts to different sizes of paellas, and has alveoli to let out heat and steam, as well as projections that can be used as gloves to avoid getting burned by the handles. Replaces aluminum and plastic
  • Twin Pizza Box (International Paper). Optimization project for the standard pizza box to be able to transport two pizzas in the same packaging.
  • T9 E-Scooter Box (Smurfit Kappa). Ideal reusable solution for the ecommerce channel of personal mobility vehicles. The box efficiently organizes all the scooter components, reducing the total length to less than 120cm. It has a special protection area for the screen.
  • Zoetis grouper (Alzamora Group). Cardboard solution aimed at the veterinary sector that eliminates plastic trays for transporting glass bottles. It has a base and a lid to protect and stabilize the bottles.
  • AgroLife® (Smurfit Kappa). 100% biodegradable, recyclable paper suitable for contact with food that is integrated into cardboard boxes and trays for packaging and transporting fruits Functionally, it absorbs the ethylene produced naturally by the fruit, delays ripening and reduces the risk of waste , making it the ideal solution for export and long-distance logistics chains.
  • rPET Vacsac (Climesa). Fully recyclable Flexible Container made from 117 recycled bottles. 
  • Recyclable single-material pharmaceutical blister (Rotor Print). Made entirely of PET. It does not include an aluminum lid, so it can be recycled and the consumption of materials and the weight of the container are reduced. It is a high barrier container for the preservation of medications. It incorporates a laser pre-cut to extract the pills easily.
  • TUPack (Smurfit Kappa). Cardboard packaging for cases of two bottles intended for online commerce. One-piece structure that adapts to bottles of different sizes and ensures product stability during transport.
  • Drops (Various Graphics). Label for Drops herbal liqueur. Made with 100% recycled fiber paper. Irregular and textured surface. It precisely inserts a firefly as a central motif that stands out for the graphic resources used.
  • OliverOnda (Coreti), digitally printed velvety label with gold prints and silk-screen varnishes that achieve a spectacular tactile and visual result to highlight this bottle of premium olive oil on the shelf.
  • Intelligent packaging for traceability control (Vegabaja Packaging).System that uses unique and variable QR codes in order to control stocks, avoid losses and track each of its products throughout the entire supply chain.
     

YOUNG DESIGN

  • 'Redesign take away Asian food' (María Azañón, Alba López and Javier Maldonado from the Polytechnic University of Madrid). This project eliminates plastic packaging used in the food delivery service and creates a modern, clean and ergonomic design adapted to the user. It consists of a bag with a smile-shaped handle that closes with chopsticks and includes three primary containers, two for hot foods and one for cold foods, guaranteeing their correct conservation until final delivery. It is made with a multi-layer board made from renewable wood fiber, and a finish with water-based dispersion technology that makes it resistant to liquids and grease.
  • SliverTiming (Ana Barrueco, Constanza Frías Palomino, Virginia Martín and Loreto Miguel from the Polytechnic University of Madrid) Refillable packaging for shampoo in the shape of an hourglass, which thanks to its outer casing allows measuring periods of 30 seconds, ensuring compliance with the times necessary for the correct use of the product. This packaging is not only reusable, but it is a marketing strategy that surprises the consumer with its unique and different design.
  • Box 312 (Pablo Alfonso, Carlos Gutiérrez, Eva Lawn and Victorina del Carmen Parra from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.) Container for bulk fruits and vegetables suitable for distribution and display in stores. It is made up of scoops that serve as both a display and a tool so that the consumer can serve the fruit they want.
  • Magma (Natale Armendariz, Maider Armentia, Oier Bengoetxea and Itziar Sanchez from Mondragon Unibertsitatea). Translucent refillable single-material container made of 100% recycled and recyclable plastic for protein products. Minimalist aesthetics and easy stackability. Lace closure, spoon integrated into the lid and ergonomic shape.
  • Eco1 Box Redesign (Irene Camañes, Ana Cuenca, Sara Fuentelsaz and Ana Covadonga from the University of Zaragoza). Reusable, assembleable and detachable packaging, with a complete folding capacity. The box has staples that can be stretched, serving both for storage and shipping and without the user needing to use tools or use too much force to disassemble it. In addition, the elastic staple creates a different brand image that, together with the artisan-looking planks, reflects the company's values.
  • Hopi (Anna Calatayud, María Gómez, Sílvia Serrat de Elisava) Refillable packaging solution for personal hygiene products made with 100% recycled and recyclable materials. It consists of two nested containers that, when separated, allow it to be used at home (larger format) or outside (travel format).
     

ADVERTISING AT THE PLACE OF SALE (POS)
 

  • Versa Tasting Counter (Wondu.). Suitcase that transforms into a resistant counter for food tasting products. Quick and intuitive assembly without tools. It is recyclable.
  • Nuri Display (Smurfit Kappa). Very visual solution of cardboard in a nest with an edging tape. Simulates a can of preserves like the product it contains. It has four shelves to hold up to 160 units. Delivered assembled.
  • Cardboard Donuts Van – Bimbo Donuts Iberia (Tot Display.) Exhibitor cardboard and easy assembly that replica the original 2CV Donuts delivery van. It is very versatile to place the amount of product you want to display depending on the format and size of the store.
  • Nuxe Prodigioso 2023: HP+ Roulette (Adaequo, SL). Exhibitor that incorporates gamification elements seeking interaction with the customer. Visibility is increased and the concept of dry oil as a daily hydration treatment is reinforced. 
  • Lancôme Summer Animation (Adaequo, SL) set of elements simulating suitcases and travel trunks for the summer campaign with exhibition of fragrance and makeup products. They incorporate leatherette handles and chrome metal terminals.
  • Headboard for commercial surface (Altavia Ibérica.). Digitally printed cardboard display that saves 52% in production costs compared to the previous version made of melanin with printed vinyl. Logistics costs are also reduced by 60% when delivered disassembled. It incorporates a blue LED strip to highlight the furniture.
  • Giant BB/GG fictitious (Adaequo, SL). Large format reproductions of Carolina Herrera's BB and GG fragrances. Stiletto built with aluminum molds from 3D printing.
  • Exhibitor Jean Paul Gaultier – Pride (Adaequo, SL) Tabletop display designed in multimaterial (cardboard, methacrylate). The rough varnish on the methacrylate base achieves a concrete effect.
