Quadpack Wood opens biomass plant

9th September 2020

This month, Quadpack Wood, the wood components factory located in Torelló, Spain, will take an important step towards carbon neutrality thanks to a new biomass plant. From now on, Quadpack Wood will use its own wood waste to generate power for its dryers and heating and air conditioning systems, thus eliminating the need for fossil fuels.

The strategy of sustainability Quadpack encompasses not only its products and employees, but also its processes, and the biomass plant is the result of a long-term project aimed at reducing carbon emissions at the factory. This new center has involved an investment of 2 million euros and nine months of works.

In 2016, a state-of-the-art regenerative thermal oxidant was installed at Quadpack Wood to process and eliminate volatile organic component emissions, exceeding environmental regulations. In 2017 electricity from renewable sources began to be used in the factory; an initiative that has since been implemented across all Quadpack manufacturing sites.

All raw materials come from sustainably exploited forests, mostly in Europe, to ensure a transparent chain of custody. In this section, Quadpack Wood has the FSC® certifications (Forest Stewardship Council) and the PEFC ™ (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification). The group's joint efforts in terms of sustainability have earned it the EcoVadis Silver Medal, a prestigious rating platform that assesses corporate social responsibility. Future plans go even further, with objectives such as increasing renewable energy sources through investment in solar panels, within the framework of the company's commitment to generating a positive impact on the planet and society.
