“We want to offer our clients local solutions”

MPO are manufacturers with their own machinery for lined boxes, cardboard POS and packaging. They offer a comprehensive customer service, as explained by Carmen Alonso, Sales Director.

What services do you offer from the MPO packaging division?
Our 360° comprehensive approach consists of accompanying the client from the design of their project, to its staging at the point of sale. Therefore, we carry out the design and manufacture and, in the cases in which it is necessary, the handling of the products and the distribution, even carrying out the installation at the point of sale of the materials susceptible to this service.

For which sectors do they work and in what proportion?
Although historically we started the activity to serve the entertainment market, today we operate mainly for the beauty and gourmet markets. These are the two main sectors in which we have developed our high value-added know-how.

The MPO group has offices in Spain and France. What is your position in these two countries? In which European markets do you have the greatest presence?
Our two offices work together and in total complementarity on our technical knowledge.
We work in the same sectors of activity and in the same lines of products. The additional specialty of Spain is the PLV. For the rest, in both countries lined boxes, cases and advent calendars are designed and manufactured.
We want to offer our customers local solutions.

MPO obtained the Ecovadis Gold Medal in Spain. What is your sustainability strategy based on?
Our approach to CSR is based on three pillars: the environment, respect for human beings and territorial solidarity.
We have made a series of commitments on all these issues through the creation of a CSR steering committee.

What solutions do you offer for a more sustainable packaging?
As for products, we offer our customers numerous eco-designed solutions that allow them to eliminate the use of plastic, optimize the weight and volume of their products, and favor the use of FSC certified and/or recycled resources. Our goal is to help them improve the recyclability of their products and reduce their environmental footprint.
As an example, we have developed a range of lightweight boxes that are 100% cardboard and made in Europe. This range allows a weight saving of 40% and a reduction in the carbon footprint of a series of boxes of more than 45%.

What are your most requested references?
FSC certification has become a reference for most of our clients. This guarantees sustainable forest management.
In addition, we have many requests for the total elimination of plastic in our product fastening systems within the packaging, but also for obtaining more sustainable and innovative materials.

Do you have a launch planned for the first half of 2023?
Yes, we are currently working on a range of chests with interchangeable lids and a range of flat boxes optimized for transport.
If you want to know more about it, come see us at Paris Packaging Week in Paris on January 25 and 26, 2023 at stand B81. We will be delighted to present these new products and their economic and environmental benefits.

What do you think are the main trends in packaging?
Zero plastic is more than a trend, it has become the priority for our customers.
Since the pandemic, our customers are also looking for more local partners, Made in Europe and more sustainable solutions.
In terms of design, minimalist packaging is still attractive in 2023. It can be integrated into any type of sales environment, be it physical stores or e-commerce.
Brands are also looking for ways to stand out with tactile textures. We are seeing an increase in techniques that add texture to packaging, such as embossing and debossing, or 3D hot stamping and cut-outs.
