layertech is a strategic intercluster project, promoted by the Packaging Cluster and food+i cluster, where companies from the Ebro Valley collaborate: Aragon and Catalonia, with the idea of carrying out industrial research to improve the recovery of multilayer flexible packaging. The companies that are part of the execution of the project, based on the automation of the applicability control of the lacquer, as is the case of Iflex, the development and search for a system that allows separability and how to integrate them into the lacquer and plastic sheet on the part of Moses and Technopackaging, and with the transversal approach and transmission of knowledge in the sectors participating in the project such as AEI food+i and AEI Packaging Cluster.
The project has two main objectives: on the one hand, investigate a solution that allows the separation of the different layers of a multilayer material efficiently, thus facilitating its recycling and, a second objective that consists of explore monitoring of the application of this lacquer.
The initiative addresses the problems of two main sectors that are the packaging and food, represented by the two clusters involved and the companies that participate. This solution may improve the recyclability of the type of packaging most used in the food sector. In turn, the project will be able to investigate lacquer application technology.
The project will be carried out in two phases. The first part aims, on the one hand, to investigate the different existing technologies on the market, in order to identify which one is the best when it comes to quantifying the amount of lacquer applied in the production process. Likewise, in this phase, a technology will be investigated that allows the easy separation of the lacquer layer from the material, to improve the recycling of flexible multilayer materials.
