The fiber-based packaging solution nefab for lithium ion batteries (LiB) was awarded in the sustainability category at the latest edition of the German Packaging Awards.
The jury was impressed by the environmental savings offered by the Nefab solution. Until recently, the battery industry relied heavily on expanded polypropylene (EPP) materials, which are difficult to recycle. When changing to a monomaterial fiber solution, All the packaging is sustainable and completely recyclable. Despite its fiber character, the package design can support more than 350 kilos of weight per box and allows 1+3 stacking. In addition, the award-winning solution is certified by the UN for the transport of dangerous goods.
The EdgePak Straw solution is ideal for one-way LiB shipments as it reduces both environmental impact and total supply chain costs and is easy to recycle. The concept can also be applied to other heavy products shipped in demanding supply chains.
