El National Museum of Decorative Arts (MNAD), state museum of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, together with vidrala, have inaugurated the exhibition “Vidrala Master Glass Design Contest” in Madrid. The exhibition takes a tour of the different editions of the 'Master Glass Design Contest' with more than 30 projects that have been awarded in the last eight editions. It can be visited for free until January 21, 2024.

The exhibition aims to bring the productive world of glass containers closer, making videos and physical elements present in manufacturing available to the visitor. The objective is to show the benefits of glass and its ability to be recycled infinitely without losing its quality, while highlighting the role it plays in the circular economy. The jury of the different editions of the competition has been made up of professionals from the world of design such as Santiago Miranda, Mario Ruiz or Marisa Gallén, many of them recognized with the national design award.

Commitment to sustainability and quality education

The contest is aimed at university and technical school students from Spain and Portugal, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4, 'Quality Education', of the United Nations 2030 agenda. The collaboration with design schools reflects the commitment of both entities to promoting quality education and innovation in the field of design.

The projects exhibited in the rooms focus on design, sustainability and innovation, creating glass containers with minimal environmental impact in their production and recycling process. This sustainable approach corresponds with the social responsibility program of the National Museum of Decorative Arts and Vidrala, so that the designs on display are intended to be simple and applicable to everyday life.

What is Vidrala Master Glass Design Contest?

“Master Glass Design Contest” was created in 2015 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Vidrala, with the purpose of promoting talent and new ideas in the field of glass container design. Since its inception, the contest has been organized with the support of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Deusto, as well as the collaboration of the Association of Designers of Euskadi and Navarra (EIDE).
