The logistics chain is committed to flexibility and digitization

74 companies responsible for about 80% of the movement of goods in the mass consumer sector in Spain have participated in the report of aecoc 'Perspectives for logistics in mass consumption in the new post-Covid environment', presented by the Association of Manufacturers and Distributors, which collects the evaluations of the different actors of the Logistic chain on what have been the keys to their actions during confinement and what operational challenges the new normal poses.

One of the issues on which both distributors, manufacturers and logistics operators agree is to envision a near future in which e-commerce and home services will gain prominence, while 70% of those surveyed believe that shopping in establishments physical will decrease in the new normal.

A new context that has consequences on the very operations of the value chain. The companies foresee that, in the coming months, proximity logistics will be set up and document digitization will be consolidated.

In fact, 70% of operators consider that this new normal offers opportunities when it comes to building a more digital, agile and flexible logistics chain, in order to gain efficiency in operations.

In the analysis of the environment that is being configured, 70% of the companies believe that the cessation of activity of small companies and the self-employed will be the main problem that the transport of goods by road will face in the coming months, especially to from the third quarter of the year.

An aspect related to the closure of companies, such as lack of liquidity, is the second most referred to by the companies surveyed, especially as the financing lines promoted by the administration run out, while the third most recurring concern It is the impact that the crisis will have on business investments and its result in issues such as fleet renewals or innovation projects, both key aspects in the objective of reducing emissions in logistics operations.
