Meeting Pack 2017

June 12th, 2017

On May 30 and 31, the city of Valencia was the meeting point of the sector of the plastic packaging with the celebration of the third edition of Meeting Pack, organized by AIMPLAS and AINIA. The event brought together more than 30 speakers and 300 international experts, and its comprehensive program attracted the entire value chain of the plastic food packaging sector.

This edition focused on trends in practical packaging, under the title "Driving Barrier Packaging Innovation". MeetingPack 2017 discussed the functionality of food packaging and its ability to better adapt to the requirements of new consumers or those with special needs.

Dupont explained the benefits of its new compartment bags, which feature transparency to view content and flexibility to allow for creative design.

In this edition, Ampacet presented the sensory innovations brought by its incorporation of textures and fragrances by extrusion of the polymer.

Regarding industry 4.0, Ulma demonstrated the advantages related to the packaging manufacturing process. ITC provided an analysis of the evolution of barrier packaging solutions that covered the most recent advancements, such as its aluminum foil IML label.

Hiperbaric commented on some conservation innovations. Plastic allows the incorporation of solutions in active and intelligent food packaging. This represents an advance in the extension of the conservation period by incorporating devices such as RFID tags to control changes in temperature or humidity that may affect the integrity of the product, absorbents and gas emitters that act as preservatives, and even in the future, biosensors that detect the presence of microorganisms.

In addition, the plastic packaging allows a significant reduction in the weight of the containers. Currently, in Europe more than 50% of products are packaged in plastic, and they only represent 17% of the weight of the packaging solutions used, which contributes to saving raw materials.

Another way to advance innovation in sustainable plastic packaging is the use of bioplastics. Plásticos Romero presented a new generation of biodegradable multilayer films that, thanks to their advanced properties, can replace traditional materials with advanced properties in medium-barrier food packaging applications, with the added value of sustainability.

Finally, Danone explained its Nature 2020 program, which follows the principles of the circular economy.
