From October 5 to January 7, the exhibition "The best design of the year" can be seen at the Disseny Hub Barcelona, the annual exhibition of the FAD awards that collects the most outstanding works of the last year in design and art. This year you can see more than 400 products, projects and works of art that have been selected by more than 50 professionals of national and international prestige who have been part of the FAD awards juries.

At the press conference held on the opening day, the president of the FAD, Salvi Plaja, intervened to introduce the exhibition. Next, there was a guided tour of the three areas of the exhibition, explained by FAD members who were experts in each area: Carol Fleischman, Aureli Mora and Meritxell Casamira. This exhibition coincides with the exhibition «We are here. Women and design. 1900 – Today”, an exhibition produced by the Vitra Design Museum and expanded by the Disseny Hub Barcelona.

400 projects divided into three areas

The twelfth edition of the exhibition "The best design of the year" includes more than four hundred projects and works, all of them winners or finalists of the awards for the different design disciplines organized by the FAD associations.

The exhibition is divided into three areas: art; architecture and interior design, and graphic design and visual communication.

The wood carving simulates the hammering technique, to give a different texture to a material such as wood that generates a unique finish. “Halfway along the path of our life, I found myself inside a dark forest” by Mariko Kumon. Art

It includes the finalist works of the 13th edition of the FAD Art Awards, awards that, since 2003, have been organized by A-FAD, the Association of Artists and Craftsmen of the FAD, and promote contemporary artistic creation, recognizing the dialogue between the concept, the story, the materials and the technique.

This edition has confirmed the good health of the awards, reaching 220 works presented, of which 33 have been selected to be eligible for the FAD Art Prize. The call for these awards reaches more and more artists from outside Catalonia, who this year represent 30% of the works presented. The FAD Art Awards ceremony will take place on October 16 in the DHub Auditorium.

This year A-FAD celebrates the 13th edition of the Awards, which have four clear objectives: highlight the innovative use of materials; excellence in the application of the technique; the quality of the conceptual story that the work represents; and the representation of the most contemporary trends in the artistic sector of the Spanish State.

In the exhibition, the 33 selected works have been divided into 6 families: wood, paper, metal, painting, ceramics and textiles.

Architecture and Interior Design

This section of the exhibition includes the finalist and selected works of the FAD Architecture and Interior Design Awards and the Habitàcola Awards for architecture and design students. These awards are organized by ARQUIN-FAD, the Interdisciplinary Association of Space Design of the FAD. The call closed at the end of January with a total of 576 works presented and this year's edition of the awards will end on October 19 with the award party, which will take place in the Auditorium of the Industrial School.

The exhibition proposes a tour of the most outstanding proposals of peninsular architectural production, broken down into four categories: Architecture, Interior Design, City and Landscape, and Ephemeral Interventions. It also leaves a space for Architectural Thought and Criticism, as well as international architectural proposals, without forgetting the reflections and contributions of architects in training – the future of the profession – through the Habitàcola Awards.

Graphic design and visual communication

It shows the award-winning works of the ADG Laus Awards for Graphic Design and Visual Communication organized by the Association of Art Directors and Graphic Designers of the FAD (ADG-FAD), made by both professionals and students.

Convened since 1964, these awards have reached their 53rd edition this year with more than 1.200 projects presented. They were awarded on June 8 and in total 313 projects were awarded.

They have six categories: Graphic Design, Digital, Advertising, Audiovisual, Students and Aporta. Within each category, the projects, presented in different sections, compete to obtain the Bronze Laus, Silver Laus and Gold Laus trophies. Those awarded with a Gold Laus in each category can win a Grand Laus and, in the case of students, with a Young Talent.

Finally, the honorary Laus awards can also be seen in the exhibition. This year, José María Cruz Novillo received the Laus of Honor.
