Household and industrial compostability certifications for Metsä Board's eco-barrier cardboard

The eco-barrier cardboard without plastic, MetsäBoard Prime FBB EB, has recently achieved the DIN CERTCO certificates in composting industrial and domestic. The industrial certification complies with DIN EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 and the domestic compostability certification complies with NF T 51-800. The DIN EN 13432 standard refers to the “Requirements for recoverable packaging by composting and biodegradation”. The US certification ASTM D 6400 covers the 'Standard Specification for Labeling of Plastics Designed to Be Aerobically Composted in Municipal or Industrial Facilities'. The compostability of the home is certified according to the French standard NF T 51-800: Plastics - Specifications for plastics suitable for home composting, which can also be applied to other materials such as cardboard.

MetsäBoard Prime FBB EB is made from virgin wood fibers sourced from sustainably managed northern European forests. It is safe for direct contact with food and does not contain optical brighteners (OBA free) or fluorinated chemicals. Being plastic-free, it does not require a plastic separation process, making it easy and cost-effective to recycle. Like all Metsä cartons, it is lightweight, helping to reduce the carbon footprint throughout the chain.
