Diageo Prima & Ultima luxury whiskey packaging

June 3th, 2021

Premium & Last, which means "first and last", is a very exclusive collection drawn from eight distilleries Diageo different, selected by master mixer Dr. Jim Beveridge. The team of GPA Luxury has manufactured the packaging for these eight Luxury whiskeys: Caol Ila 1984, Clynelish 1993, Cragganmore 1971, Lagavulin 1991, Mortlach 1994, Port Ellen 1979, Singleton of Dufftown 1988 and Talisker 1988.

They created eight cases different, using the same construction and exterior trim for thematic coherence throughout the collection. Each packaging has a handmade substructure, built with FSC certified MDF. The structure includes a base and a door, joined with SOSS hinges, which are hidden inside the frame when the pack is closed.

They wrapped the outside in premium FSC-certified uncoated white paper, adorned with flecks of gold foil. They then added the branding for each distillery, using a combination of foil and metal decals sealed in a gloss finish lacquer.

Inside, the packaging contains a bottle accessory for the whiskey lined in synthetic suede. For each whiskey, a different shade was chosen for the lining to complement the brand's colors: Lagavulin is a lush forest green, Mortlach is a midnight blue, and Clynelish is a deep red. This color continues in the frame around the accessory; when the pack is closed, the frame is visible, giving the exterior a flash of color that contrasts nicely with the white paper.

The finishing touch is a paper certificate placed in a recess inside the door. The certificate bears the brand of the whiskey and provides a history of that single malt, as well as tasting notes and numbering to indicate its rarity.

In total, 237 Prima & Ultima sets were made available, each priced at £ 20,000.
