Louis Roederer wins the Robert Parker Green Emblem Award again

Louis Roederer

2021 from the Robert Parker Green Emblem is awarded to wineries that demonstrate a outstanding commitment to sustainable viticulture and long-term protection of the environment and biodiversity. Louis Roederer, the renowned Champagne Maison and one of the distributor's most prominent wineries Top Brands, was one of the first 24 wineries to be included in this list worldwide when it was created, and has been awarded again this year.

Announcing this decision, the prestigious Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate) stated: “At the turn of the millennium, Louis Roederer launched a revolutionary program in Champagne aimed at returning Roederer to its roots, freeing the vineyards of herbicides and synthetic fertilizers. and returning to the cultivation of the soil […]. At the same time, Jean Baptiste Lécaillon, Deputy General Manager and Cellar Manager, began to introduce biodynamic methods in the vineyards to achieve deeper root systems and greater resistance to hot and dry climatic conditions. […] The scale of Maison Roederer's commitment to organic viticulture is considerable.”

Masal selection, gentle pruning, long periods of fallow, biodynamic fertilizer, hedges and low walls, beehives... It is this Renaissance viticulture that the eminent critics of Robert Parker (the Wine Advocate) have wanted to celebrate once again. They also remember that the family business led by Frédéric Rouzaud was a pioneer in Champagne when, in 2018, it embarked on the Organic Agriculture (AB) certification process, after which 115 hectares of its historic vineyards obtained AB certification.

“The Robert Parker Green Emblem is a nice recognition of the commitment and enormous work of the teams led by Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon. Winning it again this year reinforces this feeling of pride, but also our motivation to continue with the level of demand and passion for family viticulture, whose objective, in addition to ecological and biodynamic practices, is to preserve biodiversity and search for flavors and aromas every fresher and more and more vibrant expressions in our grapes and wines… This commitment is inseparable from the history of my family and the strong bond that unites us to this nature and these great terroirs,” he declared. Frederic Rouzaud, President and CEO of Louis Roederer.
