Declaration of the strategic supplier sector of food and pharmacy containers and packaging

March 25th 2020

Supply chain packaging, packaging and labeling for the food and pharmaceutical sector wants to emphasize that preserving the supply of essential goods is essential at this time. Food, pharmacy, hygiene products must be able to reach citizens and for this it is necessary to maintain the entire production chain. The container, packaging and labeling is essential not only because it contains essential information, but also because it provides conservation and protection of essential products. Without them, in this crisis, stocks would have overflowed from the first moment.

If any link in the production chain of these sectors breaks, it will not be possible to guarantee supply to society.

Printing inks are an example of an essential product in containers, packaging and labels for food, pharmacy and hygiene products. It is not possible to supply containers and packaging that do not contain the ink necessary for their correct labeling and identification.

The inks used for these products require specific alcohols to be manufactured, without it being possible to provide any alternative. Alcohol suppliers should be given the ability to maintain food ink production. It is imperative to transfer clear priorities to them that allows them to deliver the product to suppliers that are declared essential.

National and international logistics must be protected to guarantee supply channels to essential companies.

Essential suppliers for food and other products include ink manufacturers, packaging and label manufacturers, as well as converters.

Without them, the production of food, medicine, hygiene products and other essential products for the population would be seriously compromised by paralyzing the packaging and labeling processes.

Therefore we request:
1. Instructions to alcohol distributors so that they can supply manufacturers of inks for packaging and labels of food and pharmaceutical products.
2. Instructions to security forces to facilitate the delivery of strategic supplies to manufacturers of containers, labels and ink for food and pharmaceutical packaging.
3. Consideration of the factories that are essential for making food and pharmaceutical packaging and labeling and their suppliers as strategic companies when requesting the support of the security or health forces to keep their production running in the event of any incident.
