AINIA

Bio2Coat, Bioprocesia Circular Solutions, Chlydro, Feltwood Ecomateriales, Galinsect, MolDrug AI Systems, Nature Biotechnology, Oscillum Biotechnology, Remolonas Foods and Väcka Queseria These are the 10 startups selected, out of the 52, that have submitted to the program StartBEC. A technological promotion program for Spanish emerging companies in the bioeconomy sector, the result of collaboration between AINIA and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA).

The program will provide, over the next 6 months, 10 startups selected a free, individualized mentoring and technological support service that includes: the possibility of carrying out trials or pilot studies to test processes or products; carrying out innovation dynamics with experts to develop technological aspects of its business model and technological bootcamp at AINIA. Likewise, startups will have a personalized technological surveillance service adapted to their area of activity and support in the identification and participation in R&D&I financing opportunities.

The selected emerging companies will also participate in technological missions to facilities, companies or projects highlighted in bioeconomy actions and in conferences for associated companies and AINIA clients. In addition, they will have the dissemination and visibility of their activity through AINIA's communication channels.

The 10 startups selected by the StartBEC program

Bio2Coat fights losses, food waste and waste through its 100% natural and edible film and coating technology. The very thin edible film that is created on the skin of the fruit delays over-ripening and senescence, reduces losses due to dehydration, protects against oxidation, deterioration and microbiological contamination, maintains nutritional value and improves appearance without the need for plastics or synthesis products.

The purpose of BioProcesia Circular Solutions is to move towards a more sustainable and circular industry, helping animal production companies to feed their animals in a more natural and healthy way that is conscious and sustainable for the planet. It uses microbial fermentation technology to revalue the sector's by-products and transform them into a natural ingredient with high protein value for the production of more sustainable feed.

Chlydro offers an innovative solution to the fight against climate change. To do this, it uses aquatic plants and microalgae to absorb atmospheric CO2. The resulting biomass is used as raw material for the production of sustainable products, such as biofertilizers, biofuels and food extracts. Its cultivation process reduces the carbon footprint and contributes to the regeneration of the environment.

Feltwood Ecomaterials is a company created to respond to the environmental and social need to replace plastic with sustainable alternative materials. Its purpose is to develop and implement a material of 100% plant origin, recycled, recyclable and economically and productively viable. The result is a fiber with very special properties, a sustainable raw material that replaces plastic in a multitude of uses and products.

En Galinsect They are specialized in the revaluation of waste and by-products using insects. To do this, they have developed a technology that allows them to bioprocess the Tenebrio Molitor insect and its byproducts, obtaining products with high added value aimed at the chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, functional food and fertilizer industries.

MolDrug AI Systems is specialized in the field of computational chemistry, molecular modeling and computational optimization of chemical compounds. They are focused on offering tools that facilitate the rapid, economical and ethical identification of compounds with potential interest. By integrating advanced algorithms and machine learning techniques, their platforms reduce the need for animal testing, providing more efficient and sustainable results.

En Naturbec Biotechnology They develop formulations based on three principles of natural origin: microbiology, to improve soil quality and plant health; botany, as a natural source of active ingredients; and microalgae, for greater photosynthetic efficiency and greater growth. The high synergy of these components, which is applied in the formulation, development and manufacturing stages, allows them to optimize agricultural efficiency and minimize environmental impact.

oscillation Biotechnology capitalizes on biotechnology for the development of smart labeling systems, covering key sectors such as the agri-food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. The essence of its technology lies in a label that, upon coming into contact with food, provides precise notification about its status, by detecting the molecules emitted by the food, triggering a reaction that results in a significant color change. .

Remolonas Foods It connects surpluses from the beginning of the food chain (producers and processors) with final consumers in multi-product baskets. In this way, they provide quality food at an affordable price, at home and with a positive impact on the planet while helping producers and processors develop more sustainable businesses by providing them with a new sales channel.

The value proposition of Väcka Cheese Factory It is based on offering vegetable alternatives to cheese that are tasty, healthy and of high nutritional quality with revalued raw materials, or current waste from the food industry and precise fermentation. With their technology, combined with ancient manufacturing processes, they manage to produce cheeses from plant substrates with an organoleptic level similar to cheese of animal origin, without using artificial aromas or flavorings.

Collaboration between MAPA and AINIA

The StartBEC program is the result of a collaboration agreement that the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and AINIA signed in June 2023 to develop actions to support startups and create new value chains in the field of bioeconomy, for an annual period until July 2024.
