Pentawards 2012

April 1th 2013

The international jury of Pentawards®, the global competition dedicated exclusively to packaging design, chaired by Gérard Caron, has revealed the winners of the 2012 edition. The prestigious award Diamond Pentaward 2012 Best of Show was awarded to the agency Turner duckworth (London & San Francisco), for the packaging design of Diet coke. Coca-Cola commissioned the Turner Duckworth agency to redesign Diet Coke. The design revolves around the letters D and K, key elements of the brand. The dense composition and the original logo give the product a graphic identity that is also used with great success at the point of sale and in advertising. Presented for the first time as a limited edition, since September 1, 2012 Coca-Cola decided to use this design permanently.

In addition to the Diamond Pentaward Trophy, Turner Duckworth received the Esko Suite 10 software program, worth 5.000 euros, a software designed for design and visualization, created especially for packaging. Platinum Pentawards awards for the best packaging solutions in five categories were awarded to the following companies:
Category Drinks: Phoenix Communications (South Korea), by Nescafé My Cup.
Food Category: Springetts Brand Design Consultants (United Kingdom) for the “Eggs for Soldiers” egg pack.
Body Care Category: Etude (South Korea), by Hands up, a range of deodorants and hair removal products.
Category Markets: Good! (Kazakhstan), for a package for rubber boots for fishing.
Luxury Category: Landor San Francisco (USA) for its Bardot ice cream containers. With suggestive names, Bardot ice creams are packaged in specific wrappers that keep them for up to eight hours. In addition to the Pentawards awards, Landor Associates San Francisco won the special award offered by Luxepack. The prize, worth 5.000 euros, consisted of a stand at the upcoming Luxepack Shanghai Exhibition.
Sleever International Special Prize. For the fourth time, Sleever International presented a special award for the most notable creation of limited editions and collectors of the 2012 Pentawards Awards. This award, worth 5.000 euros, was presented to the American-American agency Raison Pure for the creation from a prestigious bottle of John Walker & Sons, made on the occasion of the Jubilee of Her Majesty Elizabeth II, Queen of England.
BIC sponsors Concept Pentawards. BIC USA has sponsored this new contest promoting concepts created by students. The winning concept received a special BIC trophy, plus the sum of $ 2.000, and will participate with teams of designers from BIC USA to create a future BIC packaging design. CAD student Mathilde Solanet won this special BIC award for her range of dog toys and clothing packaging.
