Procter & Gamble Announces First Paper Bottle Pilot Project for Lenor

July 26, 2021

P & G has presented the first paper bottle for Lenor, brand of fabric softeners, in collaboration with the paper bottle company paboco, and has announced a pilot test in Western Europe next 2022.

The P&G Garment Care and Hpgar division with popular brands such as Ariel, Lenor, Fairy and Don Limpio, is committed to reducing plastics in its packaging. As part of its 2030 Ambition plan, P&G aims to reduce the use of virgin plastics by 50% before 2030. The Garment Care division in Europe has also committed to an absolute reduction of plastics of 30% by 2025 and to design a 100% recyclability plan by 2022. Both goals are already well advanced. Likewise, the Home Care division has committed to not using virgin plastics by 2025. The packaging alternatives led by the brands themselves and the pilot plans are fundamental elements on the path to reducing environmental impact.

Jerry Porter, Senior Vice President of R&D, Global Fabric & Home Care Sector, said: “We are delighted to join this group of packaging converters. This is another milestone on the path of innovation from P & G's Home and Garment Care categories towards more sustainable formats. The brand we have chosen for the pilot test, Lenor, has an important track record in incorporating recycled plastic into its packaging and already meets 100% of this objective in its transparent European bottles. Now our aim is to go one step further with bio-based packaging, whose future is very promising. We are excited to share with our partners a journey that will lead us to the development of the next generations of paper bottles.

For its part, Gittan Schoold, Acting CEO of Paboco, stated: “Our vision is to change this industry forever and create a world less reliant on plastic and free of plastic waste, designing with circularity in mind and inventing packaging from bio-based materials. Storing liquids on paper is extremely complex, but a success in this field could have significant benefits for the planet. Engaging with a P&G Garment & Home Care category partner in the paper bottle community is certainly a huge boost to this vision. Not only does it strengthen the viability of the technology, but it also brings all of P & G's knowledge, which offers us new opportunities to scale Paboco's paper bottle technology. "
