Verallia Spain along with the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV) among others, participates in the innovation project REBO2WINE, whose objective is to analyze the viability and impact of a system of reuse of glass bottles for the Spanish wine sector - in the HORECA channel - based on the conclusions of the previous REWINE project.

Verallia has designed, manufactured and subsequently analyzed with external international laboratories, this first model of reusable bottle. It is a design compatible with a Bordeaux and a Burgundy, with a cork mouth, weighing 430 grams and with characteristics that allow the number of uses of each bottle to be optimized. The “REUSE” engraving on the shoulder allows you to visually identify that it is returnable, solving one of the problems identified in REWINE (the loss of bottles). In addition, it is made in dark green color mainly from other recycled bottles, collected by ECOVIDRIO, which is associated with the project.

Gonzalez Byass and Familia Torres, wineries involved in the project, will put some of their references on the market for this pilot, studying traceability, labeling, viability, etc.

In parallel, Minsait is developing an App for the management of reverse logistics of returned bottles.

In the words of the general director of Verallia Iberia, Paulo Pinto, “at Verallia, committed to reuse and creating alliances with our environment, we will continue to promote projects aligned with the purpose of Verallia: Re-imagine Glass for a sustainable Future.”

The REBO2VINO project has an aid of €563.721,90 financed entirely by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (#EAFRD), within the framework of the National Rural Development Program 2014-2022, with funds from the European Recovery Instrument (EU Next Generation). The work will last until March 2025.
