El Packaging Cluster celebrated on Wednesday the Packaging Night, an emblematic event that brought together more than 130 professionals from the packaging industry at the Alimara Hotel in Barcelona.
The event, which promotes connections between people in the packaging field, included a welcome speech by the president of the Cluster, Martina Font Olivé, in which he highlighted that currently the packaging sector in Catalonia has more than 700 companies in operation, which represent a turnover associated with packaging of 12.908 million euros, thus becoming one of the most important industrial sectors in the country. .
Regarding the Packaging Cluster, Font highlighted the more than 30 innovation projects managed in areas such as sustainability, internationalization or digitalization, among others, in which more than 50 companies and entities have participated directly and indirectly. He also valued the more than 40 activities and training organized by the Cluster and aimed at members and the sector throughout 2023. To conclude, he highlighted the entity's participation in more than thirty national and international activities, spreading the word about the packaging around the world and generating new opportunities among members. Likewise, he highlighted the firm commitment to innovation and internationalization.
Next, six associated companies were recognized and awarded for their good initiatives related to the packaging industry, with the aim of serving as inspiration and reference for the good evolution of the industrial ecosystem.
This year, the flexible packaging company Enplater Alta Segarra received the award from Xavier Pascual Batalla, director of the Business Unit of Fira de Barcelona, upon being recognized as the company with the best business strategy project. This is due to the investment made in the construction of a new plant located in Catalonia, with the aim of collecting waste from customers' packaging to convert it back into raw material. In addition, they complement the flexible product they currently produce with the manufacture of rigid packaging to offer a more complete solution to customers.
The president of the Packaging Cluster, Martina Font Olivé, presented the active company award to the TEB cooperative group, which offers job opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities. It was recognized for its ability to generate new projects that add value to the packaging industry and create community within the sector.
Finally, the award for the best collaborative project in the field of digitalization and industry 4.0 was delivered by José Manuel Aguiló, general director of Hinojosa Packaging, VAVIT project. This project is coordinated by the companies Vallformosa, Juvé & Camps, Ais Vision, INNOVI Cluster and the Packaging Cluster, and aims to increase the productivity of the wine sector, increase quality and improve product safety.
The event, which concluded with a networking dinner among attendees, was possible thanks to the collaboration and sponsorship of the companies Hinojosa, Hispack, Rieusset-Gerosa Group, Saica Pack and Pick&Pack.
