Twelve Spanish containers among the WorldStar Awards 2017

Desserts Líderpack Awards that, with the endorsement of hispack of Fira de Barcelona and Graphispack Association, have represented Spain in this edition of the Worldstar, they have won an award.

In this edition of the WorldStar, a total of 291 entries from 35 countries have participated, of which 195 have been awarded in the categories of beverages, food, health and beauty, medicine and pharmacy, home, electronics, point of sale, logistics and others.

Spain shares with the United Kingdom the fifth position in the ranking of distinctions of the WorldStar 2017, after Germany and Japan (20), China (16) and the United States (15). The award ceremony will take place in Düsseldorf (Germany) in May next year during the Interpack celebration.

To the WorldStar, organized by the World Packaging Organization (WPO), there are works that had already obtained prior recognition in their country, which in the case of Spain are the Líderpack Awards that are convened each year by the Hispack fair at Fira de Barcelona and the Graphispack Association. The jury decides if a work is worthy of a WorldStar by comparison with other containers in the same category.

Three of the containers Spanish winners correspond to the category of beverages. This is the 1,2-liter Vichy Catalán bottle made of multilayer PET, with a more ergonomic and manageable design that incorporates Gaudí's mosaic engraving; a pack manufactured by Grupo Miralles for GH Mumm champagne that becomes an ice and water resistant ice bucket and the colorful Ron Barceló Añejo bottle, lined with a Sleeve printed in flexography by the Madrid company Overlar.

In the food packaging category, two packages have been awarded that contribute to reducing food waste, an objective that the WPO considers a priority in the short term and that will drive innovations in the packaging industry. In this sense, a packaging for the distribution of fruits at home from Saicapack and a doypack bag from the Murcian company Flexomed that absorbs ethylene from fruits and vegetables to extend their useful life have been awarded.

In the category of Premium packaging, have obtained a WorldStar the packaging for the limited edition gourmet olive oil "Legado" designed by the Cordoba agency Al Margen Comunicación and the lined cardboard box with right angles for CH Confidential & Pure Oil, manufactured by Fabregas Packaging.

For its part, the company DS Smith Flak has obtained two WorldStars, in the categories of logistics packaging and packaging for electronic products respectively, with the works “Octabin”, a large volume container with an octagonal shape and a lid made of cardboard fully recyclable that is assembled in 15 seconds and with a box for encoders that adapts by means of folding tabs to the different DTT models.

In the medicine and pharmacy section, a sustainable container for surgical waste, manufactured by PFP Termopolymers, has been awarded, which improves the collection process and saves costs; while in the health and beauty specialty the award-winning proposal has been Geometric Wooden Purse Spray, an aerosol with a wooden cover developed by the L'Hospitalet de Llobregat company, Quadpack.

Completing the list of Spanish winners, the Girona firm Comexi for an innovative process to simplify the manufacturing steps of a stand-up container with a window through which to view the content.
