April 14th 2012

MeadWestvaco Corporation has announced the opening of new and improved production lines for the company's perfume spray pumps at the Barcelona plant. MWV, which has doubled the plant's capacity for the Melodie® perfume spray pump, officially kicked off production during an event attended by its largest customers from across Europe.

In addition to the modernization of the injection and assembly processes of existing equipment, better high cavitation molds and high speed lines have also been installed. These state-of-the-art advances have provided increased capacity and flexibility and improved environmental sustainability, reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

"The decision to expand the capacity of Melodie® is in line with MWV's commitment to growth in the Beauty and Personal Care industry, and to the development of innovation in the Fragrances segment," said Guillaume de Demandolx, Vice President of Beauty & Personal Care and Home & Garden in Europe. The company has also confirmed that the State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China has approved its patent application for the dip tube dispensing system using fluoropolymers, such as NoC®. Related patents have also been granted in Mexico and Russia.

The Melodie® dispenser with the invisible NoC® dip tube system allows great freedom in designing luxury perfume bottles. Introduced in 2006, it is manufactured for prestigious perfume brands worldwide and uses a light-refractive technology, so that the tube virtually disappears when it comes into contact with the fragrance.
