Universal robots, world leader in manufacturing collaborative robots (cobots), reported revenues of $103 million in the fourth quarter of 2023, a figure that represents an increase of 21% compared to the results of the same quarter of 2022. In global terms, Universal Robots' annual revenues in 2023 were 304 million dollars, 7% less than in 2022.
The president of the company, kim povlsen, assessed the results as follows: “2023 has been characterized by a complicated economic and commercial environment for many of our main clients, with a slowdown in global industrial activity in the first half of the year. However, we have experienced growth in our main accounts and in the company's key segments, including palletizing and our OEM channel, strategically important for the company. “We finished the year strong and started 2024 with good foundations to achieve greater growth.”
New cobots to drive growth
In 2023, Universal Robots has seen strong demand for the first of its heavy-lift cobots: the UR20, especially for palletizing and welding applications. In November, Universal Robots launched the second model in the series of innovative next-generation cobots: the UR30; a product that will open new automation possibilities to the company's clients. Sales of the UR20 and UR30 have accounted for 40% of Universal Robots' turnover in the fourth quarter of 2023.
“We have given a boost to market innovation,” says Povlsen. According to the company president, “we are already shipping UR30 cobots and have increased production to more than 1.200 units during the last quarter of 2023 to meet sustained demand for the UR20.”
“However, the company's success lies in its strength as a platform. Excellence in software development and ease of use, together with our innovation in hardware, will allow us to create value for our partners and end customers,” concludes Povlsen.
