Veralia, European producer and third worldwide of glass containers for food and beverages, has finished the X edition of its Glass Design and Creation Contest in a joint call between Spain and Portugal, in which 183 students from 12 schools (eight Spanish and four Portuguese) have participated. Under the slogan "Glass to enjoy the moment", the objective was to create a container that would provide an experience and allow you to enjoy the moment of consumption.

Of the 74 works submitted to the contest, the most differentiating and original proposals were for 3 Spanish schools. Thus, “BALTZ” by the students Nahia Mate, Irene Ramírez, Uxue Olariaga, Elisabet Pérez and Izaro Ansorena from the Escuela Politécnica Superior de Mondragón Unibertsitatea (Guipúzcoa), won first prize valued at €2.500. In second place, with €1.300, was the project "HEY HONEY" by the students Lourdes Alba, Josefa Palma and Gabriela Acosta from Elisava School of Design and Engineering of Barcelona. And finally, “SOBREMESA” by the student Andrea Torralba from the UDIT-ESNE school in Madrid, who won the third prize valued at €900. Lastly, the Social Networks award went to “NONINÁ”, a project by Maiana Alzuguren, Natale Armendariz, Naroa Chaves, Amets Gerriko and Idurre Suárez from Mondragon Unibersitatea, which managed to position itself in first place with 1.074 votes.

The schools selected to participate in this edition have been ELISAVA (Barcelona), ESDIR (La Rioja), UDIT-ESNE (Madrid), EPS (Seville), LCI (Barcelona), UNIZAR (Zaragoza), Mondragón University (Guipúzcoa) and the University of Navarra, all of them in Spain; and ESEC (Coimbra), University of Beira Interior, University of Évora and the Guarda Polytechnic in Portugal.

First prize:
"BALZ"
is a new jar for curd, the traditional Basque dessert made with sheep's milk, which combines 4 concepts in one: a healthy and natural product, the recovery of an ancestral tradition of the grandmothers, care for the environment by being made of glass and reusable , and the enjoyment of a dessert that is eaten around the family table or at meals with friends. For its design, the students have been inspired by the indigenous breed of sheep known as "Lacha" to create a container that mixes tradition and modernity. The project covered all the phases of placing on the market and was the most acclaimed by the jury.

Second prize
"HEY HONEY"
It is a jar inspired by the admirable work of bees and which evokes the geometric perfection of beehives. On the one hand, its appearance is playful thanks to its organic shapes that make it attractive, as well as ergonomic, and, on the other, its recycled amber glass and its genuine essence that represents the connection and calm that emanates from nature. A project that surprised by its originality for a market niche in which it is not usual to see containers with a special design.

Third award
"TERNAL"
It is a bottle designed to carry inside cream liqueur of pomace, a product that makes the end of a meal one of the favorite moments for diners. Its shape divided into two halves -with two different textures- alludes to the mixture of the two ingredients of this liqueur: pomace and milk. And its label evokes the stains of the drinks on the tablecloth, after a meal, which are synonymous with having had a good time. A work valued for its global development and original concept.

Networking Award
"NO GIRL
” is a container for gazpacho, a market niche that does not usually use glass and, in addition, presents it in a “ready to go” single-dose format, to reach a younger and busier target that seeks comfort when consuming it .
