UPM Raflatac receives RecyClass awards for self-adhesive labels for recycling PP and HDP containers. The awards granted extend UPM Raflatac's RecyClass recognized PE (polyethylene) label materials portfolio to include PP (polypropylene) label materials.

It is recognized that both PE and PP materials are compatible with the recycling of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) and colored PP containers. This means that PE and PP labels can be recycled in colored PP or HDPE recycling streams. The recognition of the compatibility of the PP recycling stream is the first of its kind in the world.

RecyClass is an initiative driven by the interest of brands, retailers, converters, raw material producers and recyclers to advance the recyclability of plastic packaging to improve recyclability and quality of recycling. With its scientific approach, RecyClass improves and assesses the recyclability of plastic packaging by developing methodologies and guidelines.
