Fujitsu has received the sustainability award across Alastria Blockchain Awards, which their objective is to identify, value and recognize the most relevant initiatives in the transformation of organizations.

Fujitsu's project Botanical Water, generates an innovative impact on the environment and the economy thanks to the use of Blockchain. It is a disruptive and pioneering project under the technology and infrastructure called "trust data", which allows providing reliable, traceable and immutable data, associating it with the conditions of wasted water from manufacturing processes in the food industry. In this way, it facilitates not only the reduction of water waste, but also creates a new line of income for the food company and a secondary market for ESG-compliant water credits. Therefore, it allows trust to be generated between third parties that do not know each other and generates economic development and a greater social impact.

A precise solution that comes to avoid the current waste of water in the industrial manufacturing processes of pulp-type foods, which need to reduce the relative humidity of foods such as vegetables and fruits. "This water was neither used nor generated profit," he points out. Mark Carrera, Fujitsu's Head of Blockchain and Web 3 - however, it is a huge drain on the sewer. The food industry needs large amounts of water, which is why it generates water stress in the areas where it is located. Thanks to our technology, we provide reliable data on wasted water, allowing it to be reused for both human consumption and industrial use. Through private blockchain we allow confidence in quality water and create a new line of income for the food company; in addition to creating a secondary market for water credits and thus comply with the SDG and ESG objectives. Additionally, we managed to index a logistics control system around blockchain that allows the participation of many companies in a transparent and reliable way.", ensures Career.

There are five differential values of Botanical Water: reduce water waste, reuse water between industries and have full logistics traceability, improve the quality of life between health-benefit-sustainability, meet ESG and SDG criteria, and generate new income, since it contemplates marketing waste that originally had no value. In addition, it allows transparency about water quality and avoids using intermediaries, with which the purchase and sale operations are carried out between the parties directly and with full confidence.

Since the launch of Botanical Water in Australia, the USA and the UK, the Japanese multinational has managed to reuse 3 trillion liters a year, about 20.000 liters of water per hour. It has also donated 1% of the profit to impact projects to reduce water stress. The Japanese company, in this year 2023, will implement it in 3 more countries, with which some 100 million people will benefit from its positive impact.
