Gerresheimer AG and Stevanato Group SpA. launch a new and innovative ready-to-use (RTU) vial platform, EZ-fill Smart™, a solution designed to improve the quality of drug packaging, reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) and shorten delivery times for customers.
Companies have implemented process and product changes that can offer substantial improvements to customers. The EZ-fill Smart™ platform leverages increased automation throughout the manufacturing process to increase productivity and reduce human error. The optimized platform has no glass-to-glass or glass-to-metal contact, improving vial quality and integrity throughout the product life cycle. Companies have redesigned secondary packaging, which can significantly reduce particulate risks during customer operations, providing better quality.
The new EZ-fill Smart™ now brings to the market a sterilization method that is more environmentally friendly, compared to traditional ethylene oxide (EtO) sterilization, and can improve safety. Designed to be suitable for primary packaging solutions in use with highly sensitive drugs, it also incorporates guidelines from regulatory bodies that support current direction to replace EtO sterilization.
EZ-fill Smart™ aims to improve sustainability in multiple areas, increasing packaging efficiency, implementing a new eco-friendly sterilization method, and using biopolymers and recycled plastic.
Developed in close collaboration with leading machine vendors, EZ-fill Smart™ can provide proven seamless integration with standard fill and finish operations. The platform is also suitable for small and large batch production.
Along with the Nest & Tub configuration, EZ-fill Smart™ will also be available in a tray configuration to support and accelerate the bulk vial to RTU conversion already underway in the market.
