Cartonplast Ibérica delivers its III Sustainability Awards

Iberian Cartonplast has delivered his III Sustainability Awards, during a gala held during the Empack fair (IFEMA-Madrid). This year's winners were: Hijos de Rivera, in the category of beverage packagers (beer); Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Iberia, in the beverage (soft drink) packaging category; and Unilever, in the food packaging category. In addition, the jury has awarded a special Sustainability award for glass container manufacturers to vidrala.

With these awards, the company rewards, for the third consecutive year, the packaging and glass companies in the beverage and food sector that most contribute to generating a positive impact on the environment. “Our business is circular and sustainable, and we know that so is that of our partners in the supply chain. With these awards we want to add another grain of sand to make visible and appreciate the efforts of these companies and the entire sector,” he explains. José María Carrasco, general director of Cartonplast Ibérica.

The jury, which was made up of members of associations, independent companies and Cartonplast, has assessed the scope and implementation of good practices in the use of plastic inserts and pallets, as well as their value in reducing the environmental impact within the chain. supply of each of the finalists. Your final decision has fallen on: 

  • Children of Rivera, for their good management in the use of Cartonplast Interposers, avoiding the emission of 44,72 Tn of CO2 eq in 2022, in the category of Good Practices in the Use of Interposers – Beverage Packagers (Beer)
  • Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Iberia, for its good management of the Cartonplast Interlayers in Iberia, avoiding the emission of 8,54 Tn of CO2 eq in 2022, in the category of Good Practices in the Use of Interposers – Beverage Packagers (Soft Drinks)
  • Unilever, for its good management of the Cartonplast interlayers of the mayonnaise jars in the Leioa factory (Vizcaya), avoiding the emission of 15,06 Tn of CO2 eq in 2022 in the category of Good Practices in the Use of Interposers – Food Packers 
  • vidrala, with a saving of 19,90 Tn of CO2 saved in 2022, in the category of Sustainability for Glass container manufacturers.

These four award-winning companies alone have saved the equivalent of 88,22 Tn of CO2. 

A prize for the winners and for the environment

"A tree captures on average one ton of CO2 per year, and since at Cartonplast we believe that there is no greater prize than helping to further offset the carbon footprint of these companies, every year we dedicate these awards to reforestation,” explains Jose María. Carrasco. In this way, each of the winners of the III Cartonplast Sustainability Awards receives, in addition to the commemorative diploma, a participation in the Sustainable Forests project run by Cartonplast, which translates into the planting of a total of 200 trees that They will help them continue offsetting their CO2 emissions and will absorb a total of 32.800 kg of CO2 over a period of 40 years. This reforestation will take place in areas devastated by fires in Spain with the aim of restoring and protecting two ecosystems of great value for our country.
